Prince Edward County Heritage Awards 2017: Celebrating Heritage Champions in our Community

Picton, ON –

In recognition of the important role that members of the community play in the preservation and promotion of Prince Edward County heritage, the municipality’s Heritage Advisory Committee (PEHAC) is happy to announce the 2017 Prince Edward County Heritage Awards.  From March 31st to May 15th, PEHAC will be accepting nominations for individuals that have contributed to the preservation and promotion of heritage in The County.

In PEHAC’s 2016 report to Council, A Place for Heritage, the Committee identified the importance of community-driven conservation as a key method of preserving local heritage assets; the 2017 Heritage Awards are intended to promote and recognize such efforts in The County. “The municipality can play an important role in promoting heritage preservation in our community,” said Mayor Robert Quaiff, “but the true champions of heritage are local residents that feel passionately about preservation—I’m proud that PEHAC has taken the initiative to celebrate these contributions.”

Awards have been established for four categories:

Conservation of Built Heritage – For preservation, restoration or protection of built heritage in Prince Edward County
Heritage Awareness and Advocacy – For outstanding contributions in public advocacy on behalf of heritage in Prince Edward County
Preservation of Cultural Heritage Landscapes – For preservation or protection of a geographic area that has cultural heritage value in Prince Edward County
Lifetime Achievement – For extensive commitment to the preservation and promotion of the cultural or built heritage of Prince Edward County

Nomination forms are available on the County website under Heritage Conservation and must be submitted by May 15, 2017.  All nominations are welcome - anyone who has shown dedication to the preservation and promotion of the County’s heritage is eligible. Winners will be announced in early June, and awards will be presented at the Prince Edward Historical Society’s Two Days About Yesterday event on June 24th.
